How can you trust in a God you can’t see or sense when all the evidence in your life seems to suggest that He doesn’t care about you?
One of the great mysteries and facts about our walk with God is that we rarely understand everything He is doing in our lives. If we always understood, we would have no need to trust Him. As believers, we often find ourselves in places of not knowing, and we catch ourselves questioning God: “What does my future hold?” “Will I ever get married?” “What will my children be when they grow up?” “Will I have the provision I need in my old age?”
We have to learn to trust God when we do not understand what is happening in our lives, and we need to become comfortable with unanswered questions. You and I may never have every answer we want when we want it, so we need to relax and get comfortable knowing and trusting God, the One Who does know. Without trust, it is impossible to enjoy today and be ready to face tomorrow with expectancy.
It’s one thing to trust God in the light…it’s another thing entirely to trust Him when you don’t understand. That’s the kind of faith we’re after and that’s the kind of faith the world needs to see!
Confidence is the fruit of trusting God. When we trust Him, we may not have all the answers, but we are confident that He does. Many people think they’re trusting God but they’re worrying all the time. For me, it was a real eye-opener when I realized that as long as I was worried and anxious and trying to figure everything out, I was not really trusting God. We need to lean on, trust in, and be confident in God.
If you are the kind of person who has to have everything figured out in order to settle down, let me encourage you today to accept the fact you are not likely to receive all the answers you want in this lifetime. Choose to stop demanding explanations and begin practicing trust. Instead of asking God why to tell Him, you trust Him. Believing God is not a struggle, it’s rest. We show we trust God when we give up worry, reasoning, and all anxiety…and we enter the rest of God through simple childlike faith.
Trust in Him Is there something in your life you don’t understand, no matter how long and hard you think about it? Give it to God and put your trust in Him. Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.
Trusting God when we don’t understand
We still trust God.
We still believe that He is good.
That He has a perfect plan.
That He is sovereign.
Even when we do not understand. Even when we do not see. For really, isn’t that what trust requires? Believing even when we do not see.
Prayer Starter: Lord Jesus, thank You for taking control of my life. Help me to trust You in all things, including my thoughts, and help me to always keep my thoughts in line with Your plan for my life.
