Rare Pink Dolphin Spotted, And It’ll Take Your Breath Away

Here’s looking at chew flipper: Rare bubblegum pink river dolphin makes a splash in the Amazon. This rare pink dolphin sighting is the only thing getting us through  the week.

An exceedingly uncommon pink dolphin leaps out of an Amazonian river in these stunning photographs. The pink creature, which usually hides deep in the Rio Negro river, an Amazon tributary, was seen springing from the water.

The Amazon Pink River Dolphin, weighing in about 21 stone, appeared surprisingly agile as it surged above the waves.

The Amazon Pink River Dolphin is the world’s largest freshwater dolphin, measuring up to nine feet in length. As it ascended above the waters, the Amazon Pink River Dolphin seemed extremely agile. Scientists believe the coloration is due in part to the dolphin’s ᴅɪᴇt of crabs and shell fish.

He said that was his first encounter with the enigmatic mamal. ‘I was ecstatic when I saw it,’ he continued. “I was overjoyed because they don’t generally jump or play as much as a common sea dolphin, so it was rather unique.”.

‘I believe their skin is thinner than that of a normal dolphin so the blood vessels are just under the skin which gives it the pink colour. They sort of look like pigs with long beaks.’

Despite its beautiful pink color, the dolphin is colorblind and cannot enjoy color because of its weak vision. To navigate benᴇᴀᴛh water and obtain food, the potentially enᴅᴀɴɢᴇʀed aquatic mammals use an internal sonar system. Humans have historically spared the Amazon Pink River Dolphin, commonly known as the Boto, because they believe it possesses special abilities.

However, today they are increasingly viewed by fishermen as an unwanted competitor for fish and are also at risk of getting tangled up in fishing nets.

Scientists do not know exactly know why the dolphins are pink. However, they believe that the coloration is due in part to the dolphin’s diet of crabs and shell fish as well as the presence of a large number of blood capillaries near the surface of the dolphin’s skin.

The unique animals are known to fʟᴜsʜ an even brighter shade of pink when they are excited.
