Lisa Robinson-Ward is a San Francisco-based photographer who shoots weddings and portraits, but she knew she wanted to document her own birth experience as well when she became pregnant last year.
In fact, so dedicated is she to her profession that she even photographed the birth of her own daughter, and the results are as extraordinary as you’d imagine.
Robinson, who has a 9-year-old son from a previous marriage, says she and her husband had been trying to get pregnant for a few years and had suffered two miscarriages. After deciding to quit trying, they soon discovered they were pregnant once more. Being the true photographer that she is, Lisa opted to take pictures of her labor and delivery because it came as a major shock to her when she found out she was pregnant once more.
She says the idea originally began as a joke, but after some thought she decided to give it a try. “I was pretty flexible with the plan,” she said.
“If it became impossible I was fine with not doing it but fortunately I had a really easy and amazing birth experience.”
