Rescued Baby Elephants in Zimbabwe: A Tale of Heroic Compassion and Survival ‎

Two newborn elephants named Tess and Mana were saved from a terrible condition in Zimbabwe in a heartwarming tale of survival and kindness. When a severe drought left them stranded in a muddy waterhole, their journey from hopelessness to safety began.

Thanks to the heroic efforts of wildlife photographer Jens Cullmann and the ‘Wild is Life’ animal sanctuary, these young elephants now have a second chance at life.

Jens Cullmann was visiting Mana Pools National Park when he came across the trapped elephants. As soon as she realized how urgent the situation was, she called the animal sanctuary “Wild is Life.”  Equipped with ropes, shovels, and the unwavering resolve of volunteers and an animal veterinarian, the crew at the sanctuary swiftly came together to free the elephants from their muddy trap.

The rescue operation was a grueling effort that lasted several hours. The group labored nonstop to release Tess and Mana, despite difficult terrain and inclement weather. When they managed to safely drag the worn-out and frail elephants to safety, their persistence paid off.

Once freed, Tess and Mana required immediate medical attention due to dehydration and weakness. The team administered intravenous drips to rehydrate them and restore their strength. After stabilizing the elephants, they were transported by plane to the Zimbabwe Elephant Nursery, where they would receive specialized care.

At the nursery, Tess and Mana have begun their journey to recovery in a nurturing environment that offers expert care and support. With the goal of reintroducing them to the wild, the committed staff at the sanctuary is committed to assisting them in regaining their strength and emotional stability.
