Couple Who Spent 17 Years Trying To Have A Child Gave Birth To Sextuplets

Ajibola Taiwo, a native of Nigeria, and her husband, Adeboye, refused to give up on their dream to become parents.

After 17 years of trying to have children, they welcomed sextuplets at a Virginia hospital. Three girls and three boys were successfully delivered by cesarean section at VCU Medical Center.

The babies were born at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU after a pregnancy that lasted 30 weeks and 2 days. The children, three boys and three girls, were delivered on May 11, 2017.

The sextuplets were delivered by cesarean section by a team of 40 caretakers. The large staff took superb care of the mother and fetus. The mother and her children are doing fine, according to the hospital.

The kids weighed between 0.49 kilogramme (1 pound 10 ounces) to 0.97 kilogram (2 pounds 15 ounces) at birth.

The sextuplets remain in the intensive care unit although their mother has been discharged.

In a statement, Ajibola said she hoped “for the smallest of my six children to grow up and say, ‘I was so small, and look at me now.’ ”

The hospital released photos of the newborns and their smiling parents. In one, mom Ajibola and dad Adeboye are holding two of their babies to their chests while practicing “kangaroo care,” or skin-to-skin contact, according to hospital officials.

According to the CDC, Sextuplets are rare. In 2015, there were roughly 4 million live births in the United States, and 24 of those were quintuplets or higher-order births, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
