Laura and Roy Donegan, both 39, from Reading in Berkshire couldn’t be happier to welcome the birth of “miracle” triplets this year. Laura gave birth to Scarlett, Max and Troy on June 26 this year after her fourth attempt at the IVF treatment. The trio were born six weeks and four days early by a cesarean of their own choosing, with Mrs. Donegan requesting a transfusion after losing more than two and a half liters of blood.
Scarlett, Max and Troy, weighed 4lb 2oz, 3lb 14oz and 3lb 8oz respectively at birth. Despite the premature birth, the trio and their mother were able to leave St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, after just six nights and did not need to spend any time in the neonatal inten. Now, Mrs Donegan and her husband Roy, 39, are spending their first Christmas together as a family of five, with their three triplets turning six months old on Gift Day.
Laura says: “During Pregnancy we just wanted them to be healthy and we were worried there could be complications. We are so relieved that they are healthy. We definitely feel like it’s a miracle.
It’s been a long journey to get where I am now with four rounds of IVF treatment. It gets to the point where you think ‘will that ever happen?’ All three triplets need to be fed eight times a day for the first few months of life, a process that takes an hour and a half each time.”
Adding to the stress, the couple moved 12 weeks after giving birth from their home in Brook Green, central London, to a property in Reading to be closer to their family. Roy said although the initial discomfort with triplets was due to ‘complete overload’, they were helped by charity multiples which assists parents with three or more babies. Charity helped teach the couple their feeding and bathing routines, as well as assisting them in preparing for Roy’s eventual return to work. The Roy celebrated Christmas with six visiting family members in their new home.
