Abandoned Newborn Baby Saved By Litter Of Puppies Who Kept Her Warm Overnight In Field

The tiny child was deserted in the Chattisgarh province of India but after being found by a dog, its puppies helped keep the newborn – now named Akanksha – warm until she was rescued

The infant had been heartbreakingly deserted during the night without any clothing and with her umbilical cord still attached.

A female dog was seen sheltering the infant and her four puppies near a house in Lormi village, central Chhattisgarh, according to reports.

“It’s possibly the warmth from puppies and their mother itself who had kept this new born alive,” one local said.

The newborn was discovered unhurt nestled alongside a litter of puppies after residents heard her whimpering, according to reports.

They informed the panchayat, a local government body, who contacted police.

“We got a call from the locals about the abandoned child and immediately reached the spot. I noticed her laying next to three or four puppies, guarded by the mother dog.” police officer Rajkumar Sahoo said.

“It was a very emotional sight … the child had no clothes and the umbilical cord was still attached. Luckily she doesn’t have any injuries,” he told The National.

One local, Premnath, said it was a ‘miracle’ the baby had survived the night, because stray dogs can be vicious, he said.

They said: “They are not parents, they are criminals. It’s a miracle that a newborn baby survives when stray dogs prowl the neighborhood at all hours of the night.”

The girl child has been named Akanksha.
